Anti Mosquito Patch

Edited: Actually this post dedicated to Rachel cos remember one of her photos got many red patches on her cute chubby face?

I have been seeing and reading other Mummies’/Daddies’ blogs and usually we can see that their beloved kids were bitten by mozzies and sometimes other insects. I think this is a very common thing that is encountered by most parents and the country we live in. By evening time, mozzies will definitely come out and start looking for their “juicy victims”. Kids are their main target. Adults, not so much because we would squash these mozzies whenever we can.

I want to share with all parents out there that there’s actually a solution to this. We have been using this Anti Mosquito Patch for Raelynne when she was still a tiny little baby. We had mozzies problem at home and usually she would be the victim, but I must say that since she was born, we can probably count with a couple of fingers how many times she was bitten. Maybe the mozzies didn’t like her!

Anyway, this Anti Mosquito Patch can be bought at Guardian or Watsons. For East Malaysia, it retails at RM14.20 per pack of 10 round disc. It is totally safe for babies and children to use and can also be used for adults. At first when you open the well sealed package, you can smell the scent. Its basically smell like “serai” a kind of plant use for cooking. In fact, my Mum said might as well she pound the serai! Hahaha. Unlike insect sprays and so on, the smell is not irritating and totally safe. It keeps the mozzies away definitely! Since it comes with a double sided tape, you can stick it on your kids’ clothes or if you carry them most of the time, you can stick it on your own clothes.

One round disc will last for at least half a day, in fact I think it claimed to last up to 12 hours. Sometimes when we use it for Raelynne, we noticed that it also protects us, as it covers a minimum radius. Its useful especially when you go outdoors in evening or when you are having dinner in an open air restaurant.

Using munchkin for the first time

After receiving the munchkin from Aunty Shannon last month, Raelynne only got to use it for the first time yesterday. That’s because we did not have anything for her to munch since we received it… 🙂

Yesterday, she used it not only once, but twice in a day! First we gave her a papaya to munch. At first we thought she didn’t like it because of her facial expression, but I guess it took her a while before she acquired the new taste of a papaya. Then later in the evening, we gave her a banana to munch. It was an immediate love at first sight for her because once she saw the munchkin again, she automatically open her mouth. Nowadays she knows very well about food. Everytime we eat something, she would get excited and opens her mouth. Even when my wife and I were eating ice cream, she kept looking and looking and showing the face like “Daddy, I wanna eat too! I wanna eat too!”

Sorry little Raelynne, wait till you get older first, then Mummy and Daddy will buy you ice cream to eat. For now, you just have to stick to your baby food and some fruits.

Didn’t take any photo due to her closing her eyes, so managed to take a video or two with my wife’s mobile phone.

Munchkin for Raelynne

Few weeks back, I was reading Sasha’s munchkinzzzzzzzz post about a “gadget” that allows babies to have solid food especially fruits without worrying about them putting the whole thing in their mouth. I made a comment in the blog where I said I can’t find such thing in KK. Ya lah, you would think KK is a big city, but still, some items cannot be bought here one. Still have to get in KL. Sasha said she will buy for me when she sees one, but I guess she was busy and didn’t get around to it.

Then Shannon asked me whether I was still looking for it cos’ she said she’s going to get for Rachel on the weekend. I said if you can find, ok lor, get one for me and I’ll pay her back. On Monday, Shannon told me she wanted to surprise me and send the munchkin over to me but didn’t have my address! So “terpaksa” ask me for my home address which I gladly gave her. I asked her what’s the price, but she refused to tell me.

So nice of Shannon, send munchkin got Christmas card some more.

Shannon, the package arrived this morning safely leh. See the photo above. THANK YOU AUNTY SHANNON! Its exactly the same unopened package that some of you see in Shannon’s munchkin post.

Raelynne was already biting away the netting although there’s nothing inside! Since I didn’t tell my wife to expect any package, she was surprised how come got package for Raelynne one…. hehehehe 🙂 Anyway, the only thing now is to find something for her to munch lor… maybe a banana. I’m sure Raelynne will automatically munch away.

Weekend

From Saturday onwards, Raelynne’s runny nose has disappeared and since then aircon is back in operation again but the temperature is kept at around 29 C, which can still be chilly during midnight and early morning. We didn’t do much on Saturday afternoon, since we have already been going out for the past two days when I was off. Spend most of the time at home. Finally I managed to take a photo of the new stroller which I posted on 29th October.

New toys

This weekend along, we bought two toys for Raelynne. One was bought on Saturday evening when there was a sale at this toy shop nearby our house. They were mainly selling Fisher-Price toys, which can be quite costly. The discount provided for selected items ranged from 15% to 50%.

New stroller

Yesterday evening we decided to bring Raelynne out for “kai kai” at a shopping mall. We left the house around 5pm and arrived within 10 minutes. At first we used the stroller that was used by our nieces and she sat quietly inside. We went to the shopping mall because we had to buy something for Baby Roxy who will be celebrating her full moon today. Throughout the whole time, Raelynne sat quietly inside her stroller and didn’t make any fuss about it. In fact I think she enjoyed looking around. Then after about an hour, she fell asleep in her stroller!

Imagine, at home, with the slightest sound, she would wake up from her sleep, but in the shopping mall where its much more noisier, she can sleep so well. While she was sleeping, Mummy and I had our early dinner at Burger King. Then Mummy and I were talking about the stroller she use and its not comfortable for her because it can’t go down all the way, thus cannot have a full sleeping position. Furthermore, the stroller’s padding is also almost worn off and can feel the metal support at the back.

After dinner, we went to a departmental store to look for the baby head support. Instead of buying the head support, we ended up buying a stroller! I saw one which looked so comfortable for her but the price was more than RM400. My wife said just buy a simple one so as long as can recline in full sleeping position. So, at last we spotted one that we both liked and the damage to the pocket was RM199. I guess it was reasonable.

Immediately after paying for it, we transferred Raelynne over to her new stroller. People were looking at us, how come one baby but got two stroller one. I think Raelynne immediately liked her new stroller and since there’s a mini table attached to the front, she put her leg up there like a big boss! She was also curious on the mini opening of the shade where it allows light in and also for parent to see through the shade.

We went home around 8pm and then it rained! Lucky, lucky! After changing her and feeding her, she refused to sleep. She watched tv for almost one hour and lastly we decided to put her into the sleeping swing and she immediately slept.

I think it was a good experience for her since this is probably one of the first time that she went kai kai for few hours. The previous sessions only lasted for an hour or so.

“Chut chuts” (pacifiers) and bottle teats

Since my wife went for slimming session at this moment, I’m sitting at home thinking about how many pacifiers and nippies that we have bought just for Raelynne alone. Oh ya, in case you are thinking, Raelynne is with my FIL and MIL in their house. I get some quiet time at home blasting the home theater away with my favourite Jazz music.

bottle_airflow.jpgGetting back to the pacifiers and bottle teats, I think almost every other week we bought one pacifier. In the early days when Raelynne was still few weeks old, we went through probably six or seven nipples until we decided to invest on Avent bottles. That was really one good investment. We known all along that Avent is a good brand for baby bottles, but then again, Raelynne was premature and compared her to Avent bottle, the bottle probably looked bigger. We got Avent when she was about one and a half months old. Even then, the teat that came with the bottle had a fast flow (it stated 1++ months on the label). Other reasons for our search is also because of the colic that Raelynne have been experiencing. Most bottles, although claimed to have anti-colic system, but yet, she still gets it. But Avent one is really proven with Raelynne to reduce colic during feeding. So I had to go look for another Avent teat, luckily there’s one for 0+ months. This time it suited her and the case of looking for the most suitable teat diminished.

Then come the pacifier, I think all in all we have bought over 7 pacifiers. Raelynne’s aunty (my SIL) also bought some and my wife bought some. Most of them are either had the pacifier blocking and knocking Raelynne’s nose or the pacifier’s nipple is too big and shaped weirdly.

Alas, last week my wife went to the hypermarket to get something and found a suitable pacifier for Raelynne. So far, as we can see, she liked it. Usually if she doesn’t like it, the pacifier can shoot out like a rocket from her mouth the moment we put it in.

Nevertheless, my take on pacifier is that she must stop using them when she grow older. I wouldn’t want her to stick around her pacifier which I see with other kids who are already like 4 or 5 years old. I’m not a pacifier supporter but I know it does help especially when she’s cranky. However, I’m a guilty party myself since I used a pacifier until quite old when I was still a toddler! My Mum told me this and she told my wife as well! Wow! Super embarrassed lah 🙂 **Gotta go search my naked baby photos and hide it before my wife finds it**
